Happy Trails Leash Free Dog Walks & Pet Sitting LTD
What is an OFF LEASH GROUP WALK and how does it work?
Nearly every dog owner has the same worries about letting their dog off their leash but are there benefits to having your dog off-leash? There certainly is! Here are a few of the benefits that dogs can experience when they're allowed to go (safely) off-leash:
They can exercise and play in ways they can’t in your home or on-leash (e.g., playing chase with other dogs, playing fetch, swimming, participating in agility training, etc.)
They can develop more confidence (e.g., by getting to explore a bit more, problem solving, making good choices, and interacting more naturally with other dogs)
They will have more freedom and an outlet to burn excess energy (e.g., off-leash dogs that "check in" with you frequently, as they should, often cover significantly more mileage with all of their back-and-forth running)
So how does the process work?
*We do a "meet and greet" with one of my dogs in your home and see what your pet thinks about a new friend.
*Once signed up for the walks I will pick up your dog at your home in the AM.
*Your dog will first have a 12ft light weight leash attached to their collar and myself.
*Depending on your pets comfort level, I will eventually drop the leash and follow closely behind for safety and quick availability.
*While we are on our walk I will work on his/her recall with tasty treats, affection and lots of praise.
*When the time comes that I am confident of your pets habits the leash comes off.
*The walk lasts between 2 and 3 hours and then I drop your pet off at home, give them a treat, check that they have water and leave a tired dog napping awaiting your arrival home and an emailed report card.
There are no silly questions so feel free to ask anything...Here are a few anticipated answers to some questions.
FAQ:FAQ:"How many dogs are there on a walk?"The number of dogs on walks varies, with the maximum being 10 dogs. The number is also dependent on the size of dogs. If a dog does not do well if the larger groups of dogs, a less full day is recommended.
Does everyone get along?
Selecting dogs and understanding dog behaviour carefully is the most important thing and in my ten years of doing his work i have only had 3 dogs that were not comfortable. Some may take an hour to understand the concept and others jump right in and embrace the other dogs and play.
Are owners welcome?
YES!! In most cases owners are welcome to come on a walk to get an idea of how it works and how their pet feels.
In the summer we swim every day and in the winter we play in the snow.
Generally rain or shine, except when it's not safe conditions, dogs don't mind bad weather nearly as much as humans.
Walks are available Monday thru Fridays.
I carry felt dog boots for the dogs that may need them in the winter.
On hot days we start early to get in a swim and then back to the shade and drinking water for safe playtime.
I am bonded and insured and have my Pet First Aid Training.
I include dogs of all ages in the group so puppies have friends of their own age to play with and adults to learn from. This is most important so your pet learns to respect all dogs young and old..
